Entomologist & TV Presenter George McGavin Meets Newham Collegiate Sixth Form Centre (The NCS) Students

Dr George McGavin, entomologist, Oxford academic and presenter of wildlife documentaries on the BBC and Discovery channel visited the NCS to talk to students about his career.

Starting as a researcher he moved to his “dream job” at Oxford University where he taught & interviewed prospective students for 14 years. This led to him working on nature documentaries, leading several expeditions for the BBC as an insect expert, advising David Attenborough and fronting the recent series “Monkey Island”.

His talk returned numerous times to the themes of unexpected career turns and grabbing opportunities when they’re presented. Dr McGavin gave an insight into the potential world of careers that a love for studying biology can lead too. His down to earth nature, humour, stories of discovering new species and exciting video clips led to an inspiring afternoon for NCS students.
