04 Dec Barclays Give Careers Advice To Students At Newham Collegiate Sixth Form Centre (The NCS)

On the 2nd December it was our pleasure to welcome Zayd, who is the Assistant Vice President of Investor Relations at Barclays, to the NCS for a careers session on banking. Students were given a brief introduction to the industry as a whole and Barclays as a specific example of a successful universal bank.

Covered were topics such as; the global footprint of Barclays bank, the various divisions found in a bank (such as the retail, corporate and investment banking businesses) and what they do and the graduate pathway into banking. We ended the session with an investment game wherein students working in teams had to manage a fund and select stocks to invest in based on pieces of market news. The purpose of the game was to give the students an insight into global markets and some of the key drivers and included a prize for the winning team.

After the session Zayd applauded our student’s engagement, commenting:

“I found the students at NCS to be well mannered, attentive and engaged during our session. The students provided good answers to the questions posed and asked insightful questions on various aspects of the banking industry and how to attain a career therein. The investment game proved to be exciting and students demonstrated good teamwork and logic to manage their portfolios, employing different strategies to optimise profits. All in all, it was a thoroughly enjoyable session and I hope the students at NCS found it to be an interesting and beneficial introduction to the sector.”
